About the LRA & Community Involvement

Who is the LRA?

The Lonehill Residents Association (LRA) is our local non-profit organisation that helps keep Lonehill the safe, beautiful, and connected suburb we all love. Its run by passionate professionals from the local community and funded by the community who choose to support the LRA services or embrace the Lonehill Community Improvement Initiative (LCII). The LRA operates independently and holds no political affiliations.

The LRA takes care of things like security, medical response, park and public space maintenance, community projects, and more. If you love Lonehill and want to keep it thriving, getting involved with the LRA is a great way to do it!

Getting to Know Lonehill

Where exactly is Lonehill, and how do I get there?

Lonehill is a peaceful, leafy suburb in the northern part of Johannesburg. It’s known for its friendly community, beautiful homes, and iconic Lonehill Koppie and park. Just pop “Lonehill” into Google Maps to find your way.

Yes, we take safety and security seriously. The suburb is supported by the Lonehill Residents Association’s (LRA) security initiatives, including patrols and a control room. Fidelity Security Officers are stationed in public spaces like the park during the day, with regular patrols continuing into the evenings.

Lonehill Park

How do I get to Lonehill Park?

The park is located on Calderwood Road. Follow the signs or simply use Google Maps to get there.

There’s limited parking at the park entrance. Calderwood Road is a no-parking zone (yellow line), so if the area is full, please use the Lonehill Shopping Centre parking nearby.

No – the park is free to enjoy. Please clean up after yourself and your pets and respect the space.

Bring a picnic, relax under the trees, enjoy a run or a walk, or let the kids play at the dedicated children’s play area.
Please note:

  • No private or corporate events, parties, photo shoots or sports matches are allowed.
  • No fires, braais, alcohol, or large setups (tables, chairs, gazebos) permitted.

There are no ablution facilities in the park. Please use the bathrooms at the nearby Lonehill Shopping Centre.

Yes! Dogs are welcome, but must be on a lead at all times. Poop bags and bins are available, please clean up after your pet.

No. Fishing is not allowed to help protect our local birdlife and ecosystem.

No, recreational drone flying is not allowed without permission from Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo. Contact them at 011 712 6760 to apply.

Lonehill Koppie & Nature Reserve

Is the Koppie part of the park?

The Koppie and the Lonehill Park are in the same area but are separate. The Koppie is located within a gated Nature Reserve and is a Provincial Heritage Site.

Open weekends only from 01 September to 30 April, between 06h00 and 18h00.

Yes, but it’s more of a climb than a trail. The route is rocky and moderately challenging, about 18 minutes to reach the top. Wear good shoes! Dogs are not allowed in the reserve.

Around Lonehill

Where can I shop in Lonehill?
  • Lonehill Shopping Centre – home to Pick ‘n Pay, Clicks, Woolworths Food, and local cafés.
  • Pineslopes Centre – includes Spar and various shops and eateries.
  • Leaping Frog – recently revamped, with popular restaurants and a vibrant atmosphere.

Community Activities & Facilities

Are there community clubs or events I can join?

Yes! Lonehill is a vibrant, active suburb.

Yes, but all clean-ups must be arranged in advance with the LRA.

Contact nadeem@lra.org.za at least one week prior to your planned date. We’ll help coordinate with City Parks and ensure indemnity forms are completed.

Service & Support Info

Can I pay for LRA services with a card?

Yes. We accept card payments for services like monthly alarm monitoring and call-out fees.

Here’s where to go:

JCPZ does not remove dead trees as they are part of the ecosystem. However, if stability is a concern, they may prune branches.

Contact: trees@jhbcityparks.com. Turnaround time is approximately 30 days.
